High Choice Radio
One of my new favorite blogs is BrianStorms. The writing is excellent and inciteful. Today Brian wrote an entry about his desire for High Choice radio, not High Definition radio. Given the caving in to the FCC of the large radio operators, I couldn’t agree more.

Michael Moore responds
After the uproar about Disney refusing to distribute Michael Moore’s new film, “Fahrenheit 911″, the company claimed that Moore knew for over a year that Disney would not distribute. Michael has responded to those charges and others in a new message sent to his mail list and posted on his website.

Indecent Oprah?
After becoming the FCC’s favorite target for indecency fines, Howard Stern urged his listeners to file a complaint against Oprah Winfrey for a segment that included graphic discussion of sex acts. Well, it seems the listener’s have responded. The Smoking Gun has copies of over 1600 complaints, a number of which are hilarious. Read more [...]

For you photo lovers
Great link from Boing Boing today. Yale has a site containing tons of photonegatives from the turn of last century. Unfortunately there isn’t an index page so you just have to use the keyword search. That aside, it is great to just search and see what comes up.

How to end a conversation
Dan Gillmor posts about a new award proposed by Dan Drezner. The award would go to the person that makes the most assinine comparison that includes mention of Hitler/Nazis in modern discourse. The mention usually means that the end of civil conversation has been reached because of the feelings that are invoked by the mention [...]

Bring on the retrospectives
Now that 2003 has only a few more days to live, media outlets around the world are creating their “Year in Review” sections. I am particularly fond of the photo retrospectives, such as this one from the Washington Post.

R.I.P. Dr. Postman
Perusing the New York Times today I noticed an obituary for Dr. Neil Postman, noted author and media critic. A more thorough obit is available at the LA Times site. I believe his book, “Amusing Ourselves To Death,” is a must read for anyone involved with technology or media studies. Like Marshall McLuhan, he argued [...]

Michael Moore and the Mouse
According to Drudge, Michael Moore has secured financing for his next movie, Fahrenheit 911. The production costs of the new movie will be financed by Miramax, a Disney subsidiary. We shall see if this arrangement changes his style or those he attacks in any way. I’m guessing it won’t.
